Larry Sjelin is the Director of Game Development at the Center for Infrastructure Assurance and Security (CIAS) at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA). He leads the CIAS team of game designers in creating educational games that teach cyber security principles. He is also the Chief of Staff in his role for the ISAO SO. He has a Bachelor’s degree from California State University in Long Beach, and a Master’s degree from UTSA.
Sjelin worked with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) for 21 years, during which he held the positions of Supervisor and District Maintenance Administrator for the San Antonio District overseeing various organizations. He also served 10 years in the United States Marine Corps on active and reserve duty, taking him to both Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. He worked in a variety of assignments as a Combat Engineering Officer, Operations Officer, and Logistics Officer.Involved since the ISAO SO’s inception, Sjelin has had a front row seat to seeing the organization grow. When asked what excites him most about being involved in with the SO, he said “To be involved in a National effort aimed at establishing a more secure Country goes to the heart of my core values. This was why I joined the Marine Corps, duty to my country. It sounds “corny,” but it’s true. The daily challenges that it brings makes you put your best effort forward and brings great personal rewards.”
Larry lives in San Antonio, Texas with his lovely wife. He has two daughters and three sons, one of whom he gets to work with in game development at UTSA.
